Manjot Singh aka Lali of 2013 hit youth film Fukrey is looking forward to 17th December for Fukrey Returns. “We will be back with more fun and more craziness. The sequel with the same cast takes the story forward with the release of underworld queen Bhola Punjaban (Richa Chaddha) who again traps us (Pulkit Samrat, Varun Sharma, Ali Fazal etc) and the story revolves around how we come out of it.”

He continues, “Guess what worked for us back then was the film’s unique concept. It was a risk; the story of a guy who sees a dream and his friend, and then weirdly interprets it and bets all his money based on that assumption might have not gone anywhere.”

“Normally sequels come out within a  year of the original, but our director Mrighdeep Singh Lamba waited for four years, for he needed a kickass script which will leave audiences  gasping for a third part,” states the actor.

Coming to his character, Manjot will play a normal son of a mithai shop owner who joins his friend in the above betting game for he needs the dough. “I really enjoyed shooting for the movie. The casting team chose me for I knew the Delhi language which was needed. Also I am a Sardaar as per the character brief.”

Manjot was first noticed in Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! for which he won the Filmfare award (Critics Award for the Best Actor category).  “I really felt happy for winning the Desi Oscar for my efforts in the 2008 film based on car thief Bunty Chor (Big Boss).”

He admits that he has not yet broken into the lead category and is still doing supporting roles (Udaan, Student Of The Year and What the Fish etc). “I don’t have a Godfather nor do I hail from an acting family.  Hence I depend only on my hard work. I am also aware that being a turbaned dude also does limit my options. Keeping all this in mind, I feel I have done well. My last film was Azhar where I played the role of Navjot Singh Siddhu. Hope Fukrey Returns changes the game for me.”

Besides Fukrey Returns, he is also looking forward to his upcoming Exc el Entertainment /  Amazon  Plus web series Made in Heaven based on wedding planners.  “We show what problems happen behind big fat weddings.  The cast of this under production venture includes Kalki Koechlin, Shashank Arora & Shivani Raghuvanshi, among others.”

Manjot also would not mind trying out TV show as well. “If something juicy comes along, why not!! But my heart lies in films and web.”

Nicely said, Manjot!!
