Actor Kay Kay Menon, who will debut in the web space with ALTBalaji’s The Great Indian Dysfunctional Family, which will stream on 10 October, says web will not take over TV or Bollywood.

“No medium can take over another medium. When T20 can’t take over test matches then how come this shift will happen. Each of these mediums has their own special place and excitement, and that will never change. Any platform is great be it cinema, web or TV. It depends on how you treat it. Web series is a wonderful medium. However, we in India tend to spoil things, we should not be doing that, it is my only request. Let us be quality conscious all the time.”

When asked what attracted him to take up the series, he shares, “The story plays an important role for me. Once I feel the story is worth telling then I associate myself with it. Writer and ProducerTanveer Bookwala gave me the entire brief and I found it pretty interesting. That is because this kind of a family, this kind of craft is very difficult to obtain, while you are making a film or a series. It is a dysfunctional family with no extreme emotions. There is a lot of dark humour, at the same time, it has got sensitive moments.”

He continues, “The series has got a wonderful cast. It is made in a way that will tickle you. There is a certain level of quality. ALTBalaji is an enthusiastic bunch of team which is high on energy. It has been an amazing experience to work with them. The web-series is very believable and relatable. Each family will imagine their family in the dysfunctional family of the series.”

Web allows a certain kind freedom. Commenting on the same, he says, “There is a certain kind of freedom but when you have such freedom, people often tend to misuse it and that’s where you have to be really careful. You have to be responsible and at the same time you have to be careful that the freedom is not being misused in any way.”

Well said!
