Veteran actor Hiten Tejwani seems to be going out of his comfort zone (TV) for besides doing a play he is also part of a web series.

“I always like to try different stuff.  The digital series is a cop crime thriller and we have tried to show the human side of the police. The best part of the format is that we can really push the envelope and do shows which we can’t do on broadcast,” says the master thespian who will gradually open up more on the web venture.

Talking about his new play, Love You Two along with Toral Rasputra   he says, “This stint will further help to sharpen the performer in me (an actor keeps learning) as we can’t afford to goof up on stage unlike TV where we have liberty of retakes.  Also here if you do goof, you need to have the required presence of mind to save the day. I would recommend young small screen actors to also do stage to hone their craft.”

Hiten had last done a play 17 years back and he says, “I always wanted to come back to live acting but guess everything has its own schedule.”

Looking ahead, Hiten who last TV stint was & TV show Gangaa, will be a bit choosey about future projects. His judge character has been eased out from the above show. “At present there is an over kill of mytho which is not my cup of tea.  Also I am not very gung ho about the general levels of current content.”

Over the year Hiten has been part of hits like Ghar Ek Mandir, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, KKusum, Karam Apnaa Apnaa and Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi etc.

So what has gone wrong with Gangaa which is now going off fair? “They tried to bring in a new family to lift numbers. Ideally they should have played with the older family as that had connected, but then that is how the cookie crumbles.”

Hiten, who recently had tried a few films (Love Games, Shorgul and Saansein) which did not work, admits that he might have been a bit hasty in green lighting past cinema projects.  “Now that I have time on hand, I will be more careful in choosing scripts and banners.”

Way to go, Hiten.
