Candid chat with Jitin Gulati

I don’t want to be associated with any run-of-the-mill project just to get noticed: Jitin Gulati

Jitin Gulati, who impressed one and all with his bad man bookie act in the Amazon Prime web series Inside Edge, is again moving to TV, with the Sony show, Prithvi Vallabh – Itihaas Bhi, Rahasya Bhi, produced by Anirudh Pathak’s Writers’ Galaxy..

“Till now, I was majorly staying away from the tube as nothing juicy was coming along; but this production’s rich narrative matches up to international standards. Hope we give a fillip to other makers to explore our own exhaustive folk legends, rather than just blindly following Western super-heroes,”says this talented guy, who has also done films like M S Dhoni: The Untold Story, and a few more. Interestingly, he had also done a cameo in 24, Season 2, a show which did not set the ratings chart on fire.

“It is early days yet, in Prithvi Vallabh, but I am already getting lots of positive social media feedback, which I never got before, which goes to show the power of the medium, as well as of the show.”

Talking about his character, he says, “Tailap is indebted to his sister Mrinal (Sonarika Bhadoria), who has brought him up like a mother and father, after their parents were slaughtered by Prithvi’s (Ashish Sharma) father, the ruler of  Malwa. She also made him the King of Manyakhet. But down the road, something will happen, which will kinda make my character change his perceptions and do what he does. That journey is interesting. Why don’t you wait for it to unfold? Every character has a strong graph growth. The icing on the cake is working with producer Anirudh Pathak (Writer’s Galaxy), who is a past master of the historical/fantasy space.”

Talking about the Vivek Oberoi led web series, Inside Edge, he says,“It was one of the best content-rich shows on the web last year. Season 2 filming begins in April. The story will just get bigger and better.”

While he would not mind doing more TV, “I don’t want to be associated with any run-of-the-mill project, just to get noticed; that is not my deal. I am forever open to working with good teams, from whom I can learn. The medium is irrelevant. If the above criteria falls into place, I will even do stage, apart from web, TV and films. In fact, I have done short films too.”

With that, he signs off.
