Ali Asgar, who has impressed us with his superb female nani/ dadi get up in The Kapil Sharma Show and Comedy Nights With Kapil, has gone back on his word that he would not take the fairer sex avatar again. For this veteran actor will again don a similar avatar in new Sony show, The Drama Company.
“I know I had said it but these things are not in my hands, they are more in control of the production house (Frames) and channel. Sony head Ashish Golwalkar insisted on the same. And if I said no, I would be sitting at home.”
Ali, who has been in the performing arts space for many years, having been part of shows like Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki, FIR and Jeannie Aur Juju among others, says the best part of his role in The Drama Company is that he will not get to play a fixed character of a dada or dadi
“I will essay a multitude of characters… some time Lalaji or Harai et al.”
Here, Ali adds that the success of his earlier above comic shows also depended a lot on the celeb interface as they added value.
“The same trend will continue in the new show as well. Here unlike the above mentioned shows, which were chat shows, in Drama Company the guests will fuse seamlessly in the new fiction story which the episode will feature. The energy these B –Town biggies bring is commendable, we need to take energy drinks to match up to them,” says the master comedian.
So will he ever work with Kapil again after the infamous flight fight fiasco which led to his exit? “Why not? I have always maintained that I don’t have any enmity with him, he was and will always be a friend. Hope he gives me a juicy role.”
Ali, who kisses many guests (Shagun Ki Pappi) in both Kapil shows says he enjoyed the peck on the cheek of Kapil Dev the most. “I seriously believe these cricketers are bigger icons than us actors. It was no mean task winning the first World Cup back in 1983. I really missed doing the same to Sunny Gavaskar when he came as I was shooting elsewhere.”
Among the B town lot he would love to kiss Aamir Khan.
