Seema talks about her new show, movies and more…

Seema Azmi of Chak De fame, who is playing an important negative comic role in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon 3 (4 Lions Films), feels that the above Star Plus show did suffer at the start due to unnecessary comparisons with season 1 by all concerned.

“On the contrary, we are a new show with the same name and one common lead actor Barun Sobti. But this similarities   caused many viewers to start comparing the Barun – Shivani jodi with Barun Sanaya  jodi in season 1 which was a big hit. I feel such comparisons are wrong for Shivani is a different actor with different caliber levels. Also let’s face it, new actors, characters and the fresh stories take some time to build traction, as a combined result the output was not up to par for a while.  But now I feel that we are finally turning a new page with the emphasis coming on the romance between Advay (Barun) and Chandni (Shivani),” says Seema in a chat with IndianWikiMedia.

Seema is playing Chandni’s aunt Kajal, and younger sister of the main conspirator Indrani (Ritu Shivpuri). Kajal is quite dumb and supports whatever Indrani does right or wrong.   She utters wrong English and has her own trademark dialogue.

Seema, who has not shot for Iss Pyaar Ko a while, does accept that storyline has been slightly changed due to ratings pressures. “But this is the job of the creative team and they know better. “I sure hope that our tracks (Chandni’s sisters which have been sidelined for a while) also get due space again.”

Furthermore, Seema has high hope from this show for, “it has finally given her chance to come out of the serious girl image.”

“As a female artist there is not much to do in a male centric society, people are not comfortable with strong female   characters.  No wonder I have stayed away from daily shows for I did not like the typical character being offered to me.  To survive I have done episodics but yes most of my characters have stood out.”

In closing, Seema does admit that post Chak De her film career did not take off as she had hoped, “Firstly, I was offered similar kind of roles (tribal girl Seema Dispota).  Secondly, I did make some wrong choices, few films which I had hoped would change the ball game for me have not seen the light of the day.  For the moment I am happy doing TV for finally after so many years I am starting to get juicy roles, so fingers crossed.”

We wish her luck and success!!!
