Adityoa Suranna talks about the challenges his team faced while casting for the popular Discovery JEET show.

Casting Director Adityoa Suranna has over the years had the uncanny knack of bringing in the apt cast for the shows that he has worked on.

After having a long run with Fireworks Productions, the talented lad gave it his best over the years as he worked for renowned production houses Shashi Sumeet Productions, Contiloe and now Writers’ Galaxy.

His recent successful work is visible in the ongoing Discovery JEET show, 21 Sarfarosh – Saragarhi 1897 wherein it was a herculean task for him to bring in the vast cast that he has managed to cast.

Says Adityoa on the challenges of casting for a magnum-opus show like Saragarhi, “The basic need was to cast Punjabi actors who were tall in height with a good physique. Also, the actors had to know the basic pattern of fight that was employed in the era of 80’s and 90’s. This was a task in itself to get the actors who were willing to learn and master the art.”

In addition to casting the lead officers that formed the brigade in the show, getting in a pool of foreign actors was also a challenge. “The main part in casting the foreign actors was that I had to talk to them and tell that they will be needed to shoot for nearly 10 days or so every month, for the next 7-8 months. This mode of working is very different for them, and they had to be convinced for the job in hand.”

Though the wives of the officers had no major and distinctive part, the ladies cast had to look their characters. “We had to cast the right actors for wives as there was a major playout with few of them.”

Adityoa is happy today that the cast has been doing a swell job on the show. “Every character looks tailor-made for the role, and I am happy that things fell in place. I am glad that the cast is being appreciated. Of course, all the actors have put in great effort and hard work to play it out.”

Adityoa looks at the web space as yet another medium where he can challenge himself and his casting skills. “I have recently cast for the new season of Kaisi Yeh Yaariaan which will come on VOOT. That was a very different and enriching experience altogether.”

In future, Adityoa would love to work on TV as well as the web space. “Both the mediums have been growing. TV is now coming up with some exceptional concepts and it is really a learning in itself to work on such differentiated projects. The web space is here to stay. With a lot of freedom available for the writers and content makers, we are seeing quite a lot of varied content on the web platform. The beauty of the web lies in its varied content, and it is a good sign that the content makers are looking at content beyond the usual overdose of sex.”

As of now, Adityoa is working with Anirudh Pathak’s banner Writers’ Galaxy, which has the exceptional shows Prithvi Vallabh and Chandrashekar on air.

Though Adityoa refused to divulge details on what’s coming next, media has reports about the makers bringing to TV the magic of Salim and Anarkali through Mughal-E-Azam.

Here’s wishing Adityoa all the very best for the future endeavours.
