IndianWikiMedia gets candid with Sony TV top boss Danish Khan

Sony is offering variety in programming: Danish Khan

Sony Entertainment Television has been on a major drive of late with a slew of major shows being premiered in a matter of days. The above push was needed to fill in major gaps post culmination of the channel’s super popular reality show Kaun Banega Crorepati.

After Ek Deewaana Tha, Haasil and Rishta Likhenge Hum Naya, Sony has launched its magnum opus Porus helmed by Siddharth Kumar Tewary.

Indianwikimedia.com met up with Executive Vice President and Business Head for Sony Entertainment, Danish Khan at the same do and had a quick chat on the channel’s new programming late.

“One of the main reasons of having Porus was to have a big show in the bouquet and to achieve that we agreed to share IPR with the maker. This is a new trend, let’s see how it works out.  We wanted to launch this show a bit before but certain issues compelled us to shift it a bit but overall we are happy about it,” said Danish.

Talking about their other recent properties he shared: “Haasil is very slick and is getting good amount of traction.  The best part of this show is that there is lot of intrigue element, you don’t know what will happen next, actions of the character leave you dumbfounded.  Even Ye Un Dino Ki Baat Hai is a love story set in the nineties might not boast of great numbers, but is getting good amount of critical acclaim.”

He continued: “Rishta has just started and we have great promise from it as well.”

Here, he played safe and refused to comment on the older woman younger man relationship which is the bedrock of the show.

“The serial is based on a relationship for sure, but we don’t know what the contours will be… romantic or otherwise.”  Rishta is the sequel of Pehredaar Piya Kii which shut down in quick time due to the young boy older girl concept.

Danish accepted that the numbers of Haasil and Ek Deewana Tha have not been great either.

“We, at Sony, always knew that our experimental shows might not get big ticket numbers from day one.  But, we are confident in our products and are sure that ratings will rise.   Plus, you also need to appreciate the fact that shows like KBC having universal appeal are few and far between and we are trying our best to find concept which have similar reaches. We are also offering variety, our genres are poles apart e.g. Ek Deewana Tha is a horror and Haasil is a thriller.”

“Also, Sony has had a great run in the past year, we have leapfrogged from 80 odd GRPs to around 125.  This is itself testament to our growth.  KBC and Super Dancer have been our marquee properties,” he ended.

We wish Danish and Sony a great stint ahead.
