It was really fun to play a geek in MOM: Palomi Ghosh

Film actress Palomi Ghosh had a whale of a time shooting for ALTBalaji’s Mars mission web series, MOM. “We all got along like a house on fire; we would sing songs.”

“The best compliment I got from my casting team was that I was a perfect fit for my quirky character, Megan, who would live in her own space bubble. I was the show’s official space cadet.”

“It was really fun to play a geek and dork, who had no social skills. I too was a science student (Applied Mathematic), but I hope I have better people skills than her. Here, I must give credit to the writer and director (Vinay Waikul) for etching her out so well.” Talking about the huge cast, she says, “I had great expectations given the billing (Sakshi Tanwar, Mona Singh and Nidhi Singh) and I was not disappointed,” says Palomi, whose next film, Satellite Shankar with Sooraj Pancholi, will be out in October.

Point out that the failure of the on-going moon mission (Chandrayaan 2) lander element could be a dampener for MOM and she says, “As an optimist, I am still hopeful that ISRO might eventually establish contact with Vikram (lander),” adds Palomi, who was also a part of sci-fi American TV series, Sense 8.

Palomi seems to be loving the web space, for she was also one of the leads of OTT horror series, Typewriter. “The best part is that I am getting to play completely different characters. Housewife Jenny in Typewriter is not at all like Megan. Also, that was Netflix and working with director Sujoy Ghosh. What more do you want?”

Point out that the ending of Typewriter was confusing, and she laughs, “It was deliberately designed in such a way, to keep room open for a sequel if it happens.”

“The new transformative OTT medium has also thrown open the viewership pie. Today, if your story is good, you can be assured of millions of hits worldwide, which was otherwise not possible.”

In closing, Palomi says, “The best part of MOM, where the core team consists of women, is that it will help fulfil my dream of having more women take up the sciences.”
