The first season of Silsila Badalte Rishton Ka came under fire for its portrayal of an extra-marital affair between the male protagonist Kunal (Shakti Arora) and his wife Mauli’s (Aditi Sharma) best friend, Nandini (Drashti Dhami). Kunal leaves his pregnant wife Mauli and goes on to marry Nandini. A leap is introduced subsequently, where after Nandini’s death, Kunal raises their daughter Pari as a single parent, while Mauli’s daughter Mishti calls Ishaan (Kinshuk Mahajan), a new character, her dad. Mauli chooses Ishaan, bringing the end to Silsila’s first season.
Season two of Silsila Badalte Rishton Ka, which streams on Voot, revolves around Kunal (Shakti Arora), Mauli (Aditi Dev Sharma) and Nandini’s (Drashti Dhami) daughters Mishti (Tejasswi Prakash) and Pari (Aneri Vajani), the two sisters, and their love lives.
The show starts with the introduction of the grown-up Pari and Mishti, who are seen fighting with each other over decorations at a venue. Both sisters love each other immensely and have great respect for each other. As the family gets ready for Mishti’s wedding, a flashback of Kunal, Mauli and Ishaan is shown – Mauli selects Ishaan over Kunal. Later, the current scene is shown, where Mishti is seen taking her parents’ blessings. Kunal, Mauli and Ishaan are shown dead. Ishaan and Mauli also have a son.
Post their deaths, Radhika (Jaya Bhattacharya) is seen taking care of the girls and Ishaan-Mauli’s son. Pari is happy that Mishti is marrying the love of her liife, Veer (Rohan Gandotra), and wishes that Mishti does not have to face troubles like her mom Nandini and Mauli. While Mishti believes in love and happiness, Pari fears commitment. When Mishti narrates her love’s character, Kunal Jaisingh’s character Ruhaan is introduced, who seems to be a passionate photographer. Later, Ruhaan is seen meeting both the sisters. He gets attracted to Mishti at an event, as he clicks her pictures. He also helps Pari, who gets into trouble as her scooty breaks down in the middle of the road.
As per the promo, Ruhaan will eventually fall for a committed girl, Mishti, while her sister Pari will also be attracted towards him.
Just like her name, Mishti is sweet and a believer in love. On the other hand, Pari is a commitment-phobic girl but loves her family to the core. Silsila’s first season explored extramarital relations, while the second season will deal with friendship and complications of love. The fresh cast looks impressive and it would be interesting to see how the younger generation deals with complicated relationships.
Tejasswi, Kunal, Aneri and Rohan are also doing a good job, but given the narrative, so far it appears that the acting is too dramatic, which is apt for TV but not for an OTT platform. Having said that, you never know when things might change.
The real story of the show is yet to open up. Overall, with the first impression, we enjoyed watching the series. From the dialogues to acting, everything has been in place. The costumes and show set up are apt for the theme of the show. However, it is too dramatic for an OTT platform. Considering the platform it is being aired on, the makers should make it pacier and more youth-oriented. Too much family drama makes it look slow and melodramatic.
