Vikram Bhatt, a well-known director, and his spouse, Shwetambari Bhatt, have been taken into custody in connection with a ₹30-crore fraud case. The cheating case, initially registered in Rajasthan, led to the couple being arrested by the Udaipur Police on the evening of Sunday, December 7, 2025.

A complaint states that the director, his spouse, and six other persons reportedly deceived Dr. Ajay Murdia, the Udaipur-based owner of the Indira Group of Companies. Two other suspects had previously been apprehended as the investigation progressed.

And as of now the couple has been sent to 7-day police custody by the Udaipur court. Earlier on November 16th, 2025, Udaipur also arrested co-producer Mehboob Ansari, and vendor Sandeep. According to reports online, the court allowed conditional bail to Sandeep, however cancelled Ansari’s bail plea.

An official earlier stated, “Murdia, owner of Indira IVF Hospital, wanted to make a biopic on his late wife. He has alleged that he was promised earnings of ₹200 crore. But nothing materialised, after which Murdia approached Bhopalpura police station in Udaipur, where an FIR was registered for cheating and other offences,” per The Hindu.
