Be it a Daayan, chudail, ichadaari naagin or aliens, supernatural characters have typically always been seen in the avatar of a glamorous woman bringing out the horror and reality behind these intriguing characters. Having achieved a mass appeal with their striking appearance, they have set a trend and have been reigning over the small screen with their varied qualities and appearances. Breaking this trend on television is &TV’s horror-mystery Daayan, where the fictional character who is the Daayan will be seen in a male’s appearance for the first time ever. Adding to this twist is the fact that the male is none other than the lead actor of the show!
Mohit Malhotra who was until now playing the dapper and charming hotelier is all set to turn into a Daayan with the onset of the upcoming episodes. Letting go of his stylish three piece suit the actor will be seen in a heavy prosthetic look with elongated pointy ears donning the new avatar of a Daayan. While Akarsh’s (Mohit Malhotra) secret might be out, Jhanvi Morya still continues her hunt to reveal the true Daayan behind all the evil happenings.
Speaking about essaying a supernatural character, Akarsh a.k.a Mohit Malhotra said, “Playing a supernatural character wasn’t honestly what I had imagined (laughs). I was taken by surprise when I was told by the makers that I would be now essaying a supernatural character and that too a Daayan! I was quite unsure about stepping in this role in the beginning but considering there has always been a trend around women seen in these characters, I felt I would be somewhere breaking this trend that has been followed on television.”
Adding further about his character, the actor said, “There has been a long drawn suspense behind the identity of the Daayan. With the suspects of being the Daayan landing on so many people, I am sure my character was barely considered as a suspect and proves to be a major twist in the plot! The traits and appearance are quite different in comparison to the supernatural characters seen on television till now. It’s a first that I am exploring, and I hope to see a positive and interesting response from the audience.”
