In conversation with Vivek Dahiya

Vivek Dahiya would next love to test his fears in Khatron Ke Khiladi

After Qayamat Ki Raat, Vivek Dahiya is now looking for well-structured, tailormade projects. “I am also quite kicked about web, which is a bridge between TV and cinema, given its great concepts. Besides fiction, he also wants to return to non-fiction (winner of Nach Baliye, along with better half, Divyanka Tripathi). “I would love to test my fear in Khatron Ke Khiladi. Hosting is another item in my near term wish list.”

He is loving the way his wife is hosting The Voice. “She is not only very spontaneous but also comes across as very genuine and caring.”  Vivek regards his Qayamat Ki Raat journey a superb learning curve, “As it entailed working with several different directors who each brought their own vision to the table. Plus, with the set being in distant Naigoan, travelling time was a huge issue. Apart from my twelve hour shifts, I also needed time to work out. But all and said done, it was worth the effort getting to play so many different shades — comedy, romance, action, and yes, supernatural, all woven into one show.”

When asked about the ratings, he said, “We did quite well. The show was always designed as a limited series. At first we were supposed to last 52 episodes, but eventually lasted another twenty.”

“Agreed the numbers did drop towards the end, but then it is impossible to sustain the same momentum week after week. Also, when we took off, there was no other similar genre show on air. But midway, two other shows, including Gul Khan’s well-made Nazar, came along and divided the audiences. I don’t fret over these things which are part and parcel of the game.”

Vivek is very thankful to his mentor Ekta, for continuously having confidence in him. “She called me during Ye Hai Mohabbatein and offered something much better in the form of Kavach. Having worked with her closely, I know that she is not only a creative genius but also has great marketing skills.”

In closing, Vivek feels Star and Ekta have taken the right decision by deciding to end YHM after a glorious five-year run. “It is always better to bow out with grace. I have enjoyed watching it as an audience.”
