Talented actor-singer Neha Sargam is a busy woman these days. Besides doing the musical, Mughal-e-Azam, she is also playing Goddess Laxmi in &TV mytho, Paramavatar Shri Krishna (Peninsula Pictures).
“Essaying a Goddess is a different kettle of fish, for your entire costume is different. I am not wearing your normal sari, but something more complex, with lots of jewelry. I also take great pains in trying to bring out the dignity of a Goddess on TV. This is the first time I am playing a divine role, though I have played her avtaar Sita (Zee TV, Ramayan) before.”
Neha’s other fiction shows include Chand Chhupa Badal Mein, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and Punar Vivaah.
“The biggest challenge in a mytho is that you are very limited in options; you can’t go overboard. Also, you can’t add inferences from your personal life, for a Goddess won’t behave like a mere mortal, right?,” says Neha.
Coming to Mughal-e-Azam where she plays Anarkali, this Indian Idol 4 discovery says, “We have just finished the 10th season. It feels blessed to be able to sing, dance and act in front of audiences, and also get live responses. What more can an artist ask for?”
“The best part in both my historical and mytho shows is that we have to use ornamental Hindi and Urdu. Interestingly, our Paramavatar writer sometimes ends up using Urdu or contemporary words, which I point out as wrong. Sadly, this does not go down well with them.”
Going on, she says, “Although both the above characters are positive, they are completely different in eras, circumstances and methods of dialogue delivery. So it is a challenge to move from one to the other. It is really nice, as both the units cooperate with each other for dates,” the actress quips.
In closing, we ask Neha about her love life. “I am single now and have no idea about the same.”
Her long relationship with Neil Bhatt had ended the wrong way. “I am thankful to whoever was in my life or left for whatever reasons, for they have taught me a lot. No issue if our relationship did not go beyond engagement. Is it not better than getting married and then parting ways, which also happens a lot? I subscribe to the theory that everything happens for the best. Guess we were destined to be together for only so long.”
