Dancer and TV actor (Dil Dosti Dance), Kunwar Amar, is not very enthusiastic about returning to fiction TV for the moment. He was last seen in the fiction space in Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya and Naamkarann.

“The whole structure has become a me-too. Earlier there would be different genres of shows — comedy, mytho or drama. But now you only see fantasy offerings across all channels.”

Going on, he says, “While there are a number of channels and artists, I would not call the latter real actors, for sadly, most of them don’t have passion. They’ve just come here to make money and fame. No wonder, many of them soon quit, returning back to where they came from. The flip side is that many good actors are also not getting work either due to budget issues or due to lack of connections,” says this Dance India Dance 2 (2010) discovery.

“Having said that, if I get a very intense tube role like I am doing on the web, I will surely do it.” He had recently done a short film as well.

What about dance reality shows? “Well, there is no other format left, having already done Nach Baliye 5, and Dare 2 Dance, unless they are looking for fresh choreographers in Dance +.”

He does not think that the TV frat is a closed club when it comes to choosing reality show judges. “The makers are free to choose who they want, for they have to be assured of returns. Also today, the digital world has levelled everything. If you’re a good dancer or any performer, you can rock even on YouTube or Instagram. You don’t need reality shows to gain popularity. But yes, films are a different market.”

In closing, Kunwar when asked as to why D3, despite being such a successful format, has not replicated, replies, “Well, that is an interesting question. The main cast (Vrushika Mehta, Shantanu Maheshwari and Shakti Mohan), including the creator Palki Malhotra, wants to come back. But you need to understand that it is not easy to make a dance daily. For, apart from the regular shooting hours, the artist also needs to rehearse, so the production house (Cinevistaas Limited) needs to take care for the extra hours as well.”
