Rituraj Singh who essays the typically bad character in Colors' Laado - Veerpur Ki Mardani talks about his new show and role.

Undesirable moments from my childhood have helped me play my character in Laado well - Rituraj Singh

Rituraj K Singh is very excited about playing a bad man in Colors show Laado Veerpur Ki Mardani (Dhaval Gada Productions).

Says the versatile actor, “I can go as wild as I want, for Balwant Choudhary is evil per se i.e he was not forced by circumstances to do wrong etc. He has also made his sons his mirror image with one who is violence personified.”

Here Ritz as Rituraj is commonly known as says dark characters challenge him as an actor. “Also here I wish to inform that I had come across some very undesirable people and moments in my childhood which have helped me play my current avatar. However I wish to emphasize that I was not molested or anything of that sort.”

Ritz says the onus of raising the bar in the sequel rests on our evil, politically and socially connected onscreen family, where even the woman folk (Gulfam Khan) willingly takes part in anti-female activities. For on the opposite side we have the strong character in Ammaji (Meghna Malik) who is trying to atone for her past. So our evil has to be of that high calibre to challenge her and Anuskha’s (Avika Gor) joint concert. I am happy that I am able to do my bit and raise awareness about women being sold in our rural areas.”

Ritz who recently also shifted to films with Badrinath Ki Dulhania where he again played a traditional anti-woman father of Varun Dhawan hopes the above Karan Johar Productions film helps him break into Bollywood. “It should have happened long time ago, but better late than never .”

Returning to TV Ritz says he has been very lucky to have constantly got work. “I have been blessed not to have been typecast; so have essayed a wide variety of roles (Kabbadi coach in Diya Aur Baati Hum, father-in-law and head spy in Trideviyaan.)”

He is among few actors who have survived so long, “It has been 26 years (Banegi Apni Baat, K.Street Pali Hali and Adaalat)  now. I guess apart from hard work my good will (lack of tantrums ) has ensured that I have always got work. I don’t need to go looking out for work; as soon as one show ends, my phone starts ringing. Most of my producers also repeat me.”

Continue your good work, Rituraj!!
