IWMBuzz reviews SAB TV’s My Name Ijj Lakhan

Review of SAB TV’s My Name Ijj Lakhan: Good attempt but needs humour element

SAB TV has launched a couple of spanking new shows for the audience that have succeeded in making people laugh, one of which is My Name Ijj Lakhan, produced by Paritosh Painter, under his banner Ideas Entertainment.

Audiences love dramas that are generously dipped in humour. When makers throw in a genuinely engaging concept and a bunch of gifted actors, viewers have an easy watch on their hands. My Name Ijj Lakhan is one of them. The series is quite interesting and looks poised to stoke audience interests.

All about the show:

My Name Ijj Lakhan is the story of a young man trying to reform his ways. Lakhan (Shreyas Talpade) has ideological differences with his father, Dashrath (Parmeet Sethi). Lakhan’s father Dashrath believes that all is good in the world, while Lakhan feels that only the tough can survive in this bad place. The dramedy follows Lakhan’s journey as he tries to turn over a new leaf. Motivated by his new-found mission to mend his ways, he tries to commit good deeds in his own peculiar style, often with comedic results. Real-life and reel-life couple Parmeet Sethi (Dashrath) and Archana Puran Singh (Pammi) play Lakhan’s parents. This vibrant, action-packed show also stars Sanjay Narvekar (Bhau) and Esha Kansara (Radha) in pivotal roles.

What we like

Bollywood’s critically acclaimed actor Shreyas Talpade, who has proved his acting chops in movies like Golmaal, Housefull 2, Om Shanti Om, Apna Sapna Money Money and Iqbal, debuts on Hindi television with his portrayal of Lakhan. Lakhan’s heroic entry stole the show. His look, expressions and attitude are top-notch. The cast has equal screen space and their characters are very well explained in the first episode. The production value and the sets used in the show are quite relatable. The dialogues are well-written with well-placed puns and hilarious punch-lines. The show, with the help of these characters, seeks to entertain audiences.

What we don’t like

The action sequences by Lakhan were over the top. Also Shreyas’ comic element is missing from the show. We have seen him at his best in the movies and that is absent from the drama. He can be given more punches to add a different style to his character. The show looked like a masterpiece in the promos, but it is a simple drama. The makers can add more twists and humour to make it a hit.

Our verdict:

My Name Ijj Lakhan is a good attempt from SAB TV to present content with a different flavour. However, the story line can be made more intriguing to get audiences hooked to their TV screen. The comedy element can be amped up to bring out the essence of the show.

We, at IWMBuzz, rate My Name Ijj Lakhan, 3/5.
