Bollywood playback singer Sona Mohapatra, in the thick of an unrelenting war against Anu Malik, the #MeToo accused music composer, had a heartening moment to savour. Actor Abhay Deol came out strongly in support of Sona in her struggle to ensure that Anu Malik is booted out of the judges’ panel of Indian Idol 11.
In a heartwarming post on social media, Abhay Deol slammed all the stakeholders in Indian Idol 11 for not speaking up against Anu Malik’s inclusion in the show. He exhorted Sony TV, the channel that airs Indian Idol, host Aditya Narayan, and the other judges on the show, Neha Kakkar and Vishal Dadlani, to show some spine and get Anu Malik off the show.
Sona Mohapatra shared a screenshot of Abhay Deol’s post on her Twitter account, along with commenting that he’s the first Bollywood actor to come out in support of the embattled singer.

Anu Malik had been unceremoniously booted out of the judges’ panel of Indian Idol 10 last year when several playback singers accused him of sexual harassment, when the #MeToo movement was at its peak. Shweta Pandit, Neha Bhasin and Alisha Chinai were the others, besides Sona Mohapatra, to call out Anu Malik over his alleged misbehaviours.
It was a shock to many, when the #MeToo accused music composer was back in Indian Idol 11 as judge. Sona Mohapatra has been vociferous and unrelenting in her fight to see Anu Malik receive his due for his misdemeanors.
Apparently, as support for Sona rises, and anger against Malik intensifies, the composer may well have to bid adieu to Indian Idol this year too.
As for Abhay Deol, he is known as a thinking actor who minces no words in calling out the hypocrisy prevalent in Bollywood. In coming out in support of Sona, he’s proved it beyond doubt. And more power to the two of them!
