BARC ratings that come out every Thursday indeed sets the pace for the coming calm or storm of every GEC show on television for the number one slot!!
Well, the race here is for the top slot, the number one slot that will applaud the efforts of that one big show that is able to beat the other shows and emerge as the Number One!!
Truly, the race to the top of few significantly popular shows on Indian Television in this year 2019 has been amazing to watch and analyze, especially in the fiction genre!!
The year 2019 started with the reality shows The Kapil Sharma Show and Super Dancer being on top with the fiction show Kundali Bhagya being the first in the fiction genre.
Around April 2019, the fiction shows picked up pace with Kumkum Bhagya, Kulfi Kumar Bajewala and Kundali Bhagya going neck to neck in competition for the number one slot.
Also, the long-running show Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai got into contention and claimed a spot in the Top 5 shows around this time.
Also this was the time when Kasautii Zindagii Kay was slowly emerging higher on the ratings chart.
In the Week 20 of the year 2019, it was Kasautii Zindagii Kay which secured the top spot beating the old cookies, Kumkum Bhagya and Kundali Bhagya for the number one slot.
From then on, it has been a journey of rise for Kasautii Zindagii Kay.
As per the BARC ratings released today (Week 22), it is Kundali Bhagya that stands tall with a TVR as huge as 2.8.
Last week (21) it was Kasautii Zindagii Kay that amassed the TVR of 2.6.
The last few weeks have seen a drop in the ratings of the consistently performing shows Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and Kulfi Kumar Bajewala. While Yeh Rishta has been hovering around the 1.7 TVR, Kulfi Kumar Bajewala has for the first time dropped below the 2.0 TVR mark (1.8) in Week 22 ratings as per BARC.
The Week 22 ratings have the 3 Ks – Kundali Bhagya (2.8), Kumkum Bhagya (2.5) and Kasautii Zindagii Kay (2.3) ruling the chart in the fiction genre.
Ofcourse, the reality shows Super Dancer (2.7), The Kapil Sharma Show (2.4) have been topping charts overall too.
Above all, the weekend fiction show Naagin 3 ended being the top show over the last week. Now Kawach Mahashivratri has got a good opening of 2.1 in its first week.
So what has kept all these top shows on their toes with respect to BARC ratings?
Talking about the non-fiction lineup, The Kapil Sharma Show has been a revelation, entertaining week after week. Super Dancer has a great talent base that keeps audience hooked.
Naagin 3 had its own charisma and charm and ruled over the BARC chart. Now though it is just the beginning for Kawach Mahashivratri, the show has started on a good note, courtesy the huge marketing and cast popularity.
Moving to the fiction shows, Kundali Bhagya the spin-off of Kumkum Bhagya has been a success story from day one. Now that it has completed 500 episodes, it stands tall, courtesy the huge playout of drama injected into the show. Actors Dheeraj Dhoopar, Shraddha Arya, Manit Joura, Abhishek Kapur, Anjum Fakih, Ruhi Chaturvedi, Sanjay Gagnani are household names, courtesy the show’s success.
Kumkum Bhagya has also been a revelation. The long-running show has succeeded in keeping viewers entertained with the Abhi-Pragya story as well as the story around the younger generation too. Shabir Ahluwalia and Sriti Jha have been the main pillars for the success story.
Kasautii Zindagii Kay, is popular for its Anurag – Prerna chemistry exhibited by Parth Samthaan and Erica Fernandes. Now there is super excitement over the introduction of Mr. Bajaj aka Karan Singh Grover.
Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai the longest running GEC show can never be put out of competition, especially when the show is all set to take a 5 years leap. The show has been constantly entertaining audience with its realistic drama. And now Kartik aka Mohsin Khan and Naira aka Shivangi Joshi’s separation and the post leap phase might just create wonders for the show yet again and propel it to the top.
Kulfi Kumar Bajewala is another show that has huge potential of being the most popular show. The story is again intriguingly poised with the fake Sikandar and the real Sikandar. It will be a huge twist in the tale when the real Sikandar does unite with Kulfi. Actors Mohit Malik, Anjali Anand, Aakriti Sharma and Myra Singh have huge popularity which can only take them higher.
Well, oh well, as we get to the second half of the year 2019, we can only hope that more and more shows get to knock on the doors of popularity and move higher.
A thought that we really want and wish is that more of the experimental shows with new and unique story lines should get popular so that television gets to see a varied range of programs.
