In a conversation with Akshay Oberoi

Akshay Oberoi Resumes Shooting Under ‘New Normal’, Finds It Abnormal

OTT and film actor Akshay Oberoi seen in hit digital series like Selection Day and Magic has returned to shooting.

Sharing the experience, Oberoi says, “It was wonderful to be back on a set. I’ve been missing it like crazy. I was wrapping up a project I did for MX player. Nikhil Rao the owner of Jamic films, the ad agency, directed it and it was the most fun I’ve had in ages. Nikhil is a brilliant director. And it’s been shot by the legendary KU Mohanan.”

Akshay has an unusual role in this film. “I play a junkie who ends up discovering his own drug, a sort of mind enhancing one, and starts to sell it. It stars me, Ranvir Shorey and Swetha Basu Prasad. Should be out soon.”

About shooting with masks and social distancing Akshay feels it is not the right way to shoot. “I am positive that this won’t be the way forward though. This can’t be the new normal. Can’t work like this. It’s restrictive.”

Akshay finds social distancing to be restrictive. “In one take I felt like hugging my co-star. It felt like the right impulse for the scene. And then suddenly I was thinking about Covid and whether it’s appropriate or not. That really throws you out of the scene. Hard to be in the moment. But perhaps it’s just a matter of getting used to?”
