In conversation with actress Priya Banerjee

Bekaboo is not like Gandii Baat: Priya Banerjee

Ever since the trailer of Alt Balaji’s new erotic web series Bekaboo has hit the digital world, there is a lot of talk about the bold scenes featuring lead actress, Priya Banerjee.

Accordingly, we spoke to the girl in question, who, interestingly, was one of the leads of Alt Balaji’s recently released romantic series, Baarish, as well.“At the very outset, let me make it clear that despite the genre, Bekaboo is not like Gandii Baat or Ragini MMS; there is no nudity.”

“I know the trailer is full of s*x scenes, but you know how today, marketing teams fill the trailer with whatever explicit content they get, in a bid to get eyeballs. The entire series does not have more than what you have already seen.”

“Agreed, some scenes could be said to be a little too much out there, but that is only one element. Our thriller has a proper story, based on a book.”

She did not have problems during the shoot. “As I have already mentioned, there was no nudity. And yes, the director has shot these scenes aesthetically. It was just like any other romantic show, just that it is portrayed differently.”

Talking about Baarish, which also starred Asha Negi and Sharman Joshi, she says, “This hit family drama is poles apart from the dark thriller, Bekaboo. The best part was that as I was shooting for both simultaneously, I got a chance to play with various aspects of the trade.”

She was also part of Voot’s recent foot fetish story of Fuh Se Fantasy with Karan Wahi. “It again dealt with a not-much-talked about a thing.”

Canada-born Priya began her acting career with South films, before coming to Mumbai. Unfortunately, her Hindi film career hit major roadblocks. Her films with Karan Singh Grover and Karanveer Bohra got stuck for a long time.

“Now it seems that actor-producer KVB will finally release this Darr remake in July. The promos are out. Then there is one more film.”

“I really don’t distinguish between both mediums. I need to do good work. Having said that, digital has the plus point that you can show what you want, as there is no censorship. And secondly, today people think ten times before trooping into cinema halls. So the web is the best way for you to reach your audience, at a time and place of their choosing.”
