Iqbal Khan the favourite actor of many has entertained his fans and well-wishers with some soul-stirring performances in TV and web. He has of late been seen picking up tough and different kinds of roles on the digital space.

His recent performance in Apoorva Lakhia’s web series for Voot, Crackdown is well-etched in the minds of his fans.

In an exclusive conversation with IWMBuzz.com, Iqbal Khan talks of his experience working for the web platform and on his likings.

Excerpts:

Tell us about your Crackdown experience.

Working in Crackdown was a superb experience. Working on an action story with a director who is known for action was like icing on the cake. Apporva Lakhia is a master director of this genre. Maza agaya! By the feedback we could guage, the audiences also loved it.

All eyes are tuned to the announcement of its Season 2. What can you tell fans about it?

Apoorva Lakhia himself a few days ago gave the hint about Season 2 through his social media. But, officially he would be the best and first person to know it.

You have been exploring with varied roles in the digital space in the last few years. How has the journey been?

I have been fortunate enough to be able to experiment with varied roles. Also, the digital space has allowed every actor worth his salt to explore himself further. The journey till now has been superb. It’s been liberating as an actor for me. The creative freedom gives you wings.

What according to you are the pros and cons of the web space?

Yes just like everything, the web space also has its pros and cons. One of which is the explosion of adult content on the digital shows. Adult content can be repulsive, and take some serious people away from the web. I have been a part of one such show and I’m not very proud of it. Why I did it, what happened exactly, I don’t want to get into that and I surely take the blame for it.

Do you believe that the web will be a formidable threat to TV?

Yes, the web can be a formidable challenger to the TV, if the content creators believe that the TV watching audience needs spoon-feeding. I personally believe that the television audience has also evolved. Market research however exhaustive it may be, may not work when it comes to entertainment. There is no specific math to it.

When can your fans see you return to TV?

I am open to any medium – cinema, digital, television, etc. as long as good content is being offered. For me, the story always has been more important than the medium.

Is there any dream role that you have?

I want to do one and create one for sure. Till now nothing such has ever crossed my mind.

Any regrets that you have?

No, not at all. I have given my 100%. Regrets must be taken as lessons and not to be repeated.

Your message to fans

The one message that I would like to give is – this is the age of the internet – anything trending does not show the mood of the country always. It may not be right even if it is trending. Do always have your opinion and do not change based on trends.
