Bindiya Ke Bahubali Season 2 has been a sweeping success, with viewers as well as critics praising its writing style and performances. The series starring Saurabh Shukla and Ranvir Shorey, which streamed on Amazon MX Player, has been directed by Raj Amit Kumar, who is known for his bold and socially relevant works in cinema and OTT.

In an exclusive interview with Raj Amit Kumar, IWMBuzz.com spoke to him about the season’s success and more.

Says Raj about the two seasons doing well, “We had always maintained that Season 2 would be Season 1 on steroids. While we had set up the premise in Season 1, the new season was the payoff. It was all shot as one long trajectory, as 12 episodes. The platform chose to have it as two seasons. It is one story that comes from comedy to tragedy.”

Talking about the catchy concept, he says, “In essence, it is the story of a dysfunctional family that wants different things in life. Yes, it is set in a political world. I would not say that it is a show which is primarily about politics. It is the story of a family, which is set up in a socio-political environment.”

The broad concept of crime and politics woven into a family drama has been seen many times. Speaking about it, he says, “There is something called genre. We have love stories, horror, action-thriller, etc. Similarly, crime and politics are in themselves a genre. We create our characters based on what we are trying to say in the world, which has not been said before. Bindiya Ke Bahubali comes with a different take; it has its own lens with which we look at this world with different people and emotions.”

The series has been praised for many reasons and has been well-received. “If people are praising the writing and performances, we are happy. We have great actors who bring different dynamics to the table. As for me, it has been a sincere work, a story told with all heart.”

It’s the stories that draw him to it, and the Director clearly tells us, “I always get excited about the story I want to tell. I don’t know if I am drawn to genres. Drama is a broad category, so rather than the genres, it is the story that draws me in. Various questions bother us as normal human beings. The same is with us, filmmakers. And we try to stitch a story around those questions.”

Lastly, on his next work and project, he says, “My third film, Brown, is ready. It has had quite a few successful screenings. I have a few finished scripts with me, which I am trying to work on.”

Raj Amit Kumar made his debut with the socio-political drama Unfreedom (2015), a film exploring identity, religion, and violence that starred Victor Banerjee and Adil Hussain. He moved into mainstream OTT space with the gangster drama series Bindiya Ke Bahubali, the first season of which was released in 2025. Now, Season 2 is getting good reviews. He has also directed and written the feature film Brown (2026), a story shot in Montana, U.S., about an immigrant’s search for home and dignity.
