Actor Abhilash Thapliyal, who made his debut in Bollywood with the movie Dil Junglee, has entertained masses as Cutiepie Sharma in Entertainment Ki Raat Season 2. The star has also worked in radio and digital space. Recently, he came into the limelight with his role of SK sir in TVF Aspirants. In conversation with IWMBuzz.com, Abhilash spoke about his character, journey, and more.

How was your journey with the show?

It rarely happens that you have a team of good production house people and actors. I have been doing political satire or fun roles, however, SK sir is something different from what I have done so far. Playing SK’s character was a beautiful experience. A good script, amazing co-stars, and director added to the fun. The journey has been fruitful and I am happy with the response that my character is getting. I have no complaints at all.

What were the challenges?

For me, the challenge was to make SK look believable on screen. The way SK sees things and solves his problem is very different from the way I would react to a certain situation. We wanted to stay away from that standard caricaturish way of portraying a person from Bihar. In fact, we wanted to keep it very real. SK has his own insecurities and failures. I think we have succeeded in it as we can see the response. It is just overwhelming.

What was the best part about your character SK?

In a world of hate, agenda, and lies, we have this character who doesn’t think about himself. We all are selfish in our own way. SK is very different, a loveable friend. He can take a bullet for his friends or the person he is close to. We all have SKs in our lives but we don’t value them. That lovability is the best thing about my character SK.

What is the special message that you think the show gives?

The show talks about two things, first ‘grit’. If you want to achieve something, give it your best and there are good chances that you will achieve it. The second is acceptance. In the world, we are only celebrating success , and not talking about failures on social media. SK believes that one should accept life as it comes, even if you fail in life. You accept your failure and move on.

How was it working with the team?

I am not a trained actor, so my acting is more about reaction and it will only happen when I have a good actor within me. Most of my scenes were with Shivankit Singh Parihar and Naveen Kasturia. I should admit both of them are amazing actors. Director Apoorv Singh Karki was amazing. He was clear about the characters that we were portraying and the way he would be presenting in front of viewers.

Who has been your inspiration with regards to acting?

Inspiration is a big word for me. I am not a trained actor hence I can only appreciate good work. I think when it comes to appreciating the most, it would be Boman Irani. I love him and the characters that he creates. The way he creates his character is very real, different and I also aspire to do that in my career.

Any final message for fans?

I am still getting used to the idea of having fans. Once I accept it completely, I will surely have a message for them. I am overwhelmed with the love and response. I am humbled. This is the kind of work that any actor would want to do and I am lucky and glad to be a part of Aspirants.
