Popular Bengali comic web series, Dupur Thakurpo, is returning with its third season on well-known West Bengal-centred OTT, Hoichi. After Swastika Mukherjee and Monalisa, Stree and Gandi Baat fame Flora Saini will essay the role of the attractive bhabhi her devars covet.

“It was tough stepping into the shoes of Swastika Mukherjee, a superstar of the Bengali entertainment industry, with Dupur Thakurpo”, says Flora Saini, who joins the lead cast of popular Bengali comic web series, Dupur Thakurpo, which is its third season on well-known West Bengal-centred OTT, Hoichi. After Swastika Mukherjee and Monalisa, Stree and Gandi Baat fame Flora Saini will essay the role of the attractive bhabhi her devars covet.

“This show is a fun take on the Bong tradition where the devars joke with their boudi (sister-in-law). My character Phulwa is a small-town girl who comes to the big city after marriage. The story is completely different from the first 2 seasons, but has light-hearted sexual undertones. Season 3 is even more comedy.”

So will your character see through the game of her devars? “Well, why don’t you watch and find out for yourself when it starts streaming from Diwali?”

So how bold is it? “While this season is all about the fun and games, you can say our content is appropriate for anyone who understands the subtle mannerisms portrayed with a hint of Bollywood style glamour thrown in.”

How was the shooting experience? “It was great fun playing Phulwa, for I love comedy. This is my second major foray int this space after Maid in India. The responsibility is also huge as Dupur Thakurpo is one of Hoichoi’s top shows. It was a matter of great pride for me to be considered to be a part of this superhit franchise.”

Being a Punjabi, was language an issue? No, since my family had been posted in Kolkata for a while, I understand the language well, although I can’t speak it fluently. But if you give me the dialogues, I will be able to deliver the lines with the required cultural intonation. I did the same with my Telugu show, where I hardly knew the language. So compared to that, this was a breeze as both Hindi and Bengali are similar.

Here Flora added, “Although Dupur Thakurpo is more about the Boudi (Bhabhi), here my devars or thakurpo, as they are called in Bengali, have also done a superb job. There was remarkable energy on set. We even a new director this time, Subho Pramanik”.

Looking ahead on the digital space, Flora has the second season of Amazon Prime’s Inside Edge, and a short film. I’d rather wait for the makers to talk about it”, she said.
