News has hit the editorial desk at IWMBuzz that media industry hotshot Nikhil Gandhi has signed the dotted papers and joined as COO at Times Of India owned OTT network MX Player.

Says a source, “Nikhil is a doyen in the media & entertainment space and with his recent stint at TikTok, he is amongst the very few in the ecosystem who understands perfectly the subtle nuances of new age entertainment. We hear he will relocate to Singapore and manage global operations. Exciting days ahead at MX for sure.”

Nikhil, (ex Disney, Times Network, Viacom Media Networks), brought a sea of business structure change at TikTok with utmost efficiency leading to positive market local sentiment. Nikhil built a solid team structure locally, thus organizing TikTok in India and also got some of the top-notch entertainment faces like Deepika Padukone to the platform, enhancing brand credibility and enriching user relatability experience.

However, all efforts came to naught with Bytedance India facing a ban notice from the Indian government.

Post the ban, Nikhil Gandhi was redesignated as Head – Middle East, Africa, Turkey & South Asia, TikTok. However, he recently called it quits and said in a statement to IWMBuzz.

“After much reflection on my time here at ByteDance, and looking at my future goals, I have made the difficult decision to leave my role in the company. Working with TikTok, I have seen our app shepherd in a new era of connection, communication, and cultural appreciation.”

MX Player spokesperson and Nikhil Gandhi did not comment till the time of going to press.
