Director Mira Nair is set to launch A Suitable Boy, an adaptation of Vikram Seth’s novel with the same name. Produced by Lookout Point for the BBC, the drama is penned by British screenwriter Andrew Davies.

A Suitable Boy tells the story of spirited university student Lata and her coming of age in North India in 1951 at the same time as the country is carving out its own identity as an independent nation and is about to go to the polls for its first democratic general elections.

The cast members include Ishaan Khatter, Tabu and Tanya Maniktala. Tabu will be seen playing the role of courtesan Saeeda Bai. Ishaan Khatter has been cast as Maan Kapoor, who is infatuated with Saeeda Bai, while Tanya has been cast as Lata. The film also stars Shefali Shah, Vivek Gomber, Rasika Dugal, Namit Das, Ram Kapoor and Vivaan Shah.
