A British fisherman is said to have set a new record after catching a monster 7-foot, 250-kilogram shark off the coast of Devon. Simon Davidson, a Northamptonshire native, fought the large fish for over an hour before finally catching it. Five other crew members assisted him in throwing the creature back into the ocean.

The catch reportedly shattered the previous record of a 229 kg shark. Chris Bennett, a Scots fisherman, caught it in 1993.
When asked about the catch, Davidson said he had no idea his bait had been grabbed by a giant shark at first.
“My bait got taken and I didn’t think it was a big fish because it hadn’t started to fight yet. Then I reeled it into the side of the boat and it was a real monster,” he stated
He continued, “Suddenly it took off through the water and pulled around 600 meters of my line and it was a brutal battle to pull it back in. It was an hour of agony. You get to the point where your legs and arms are shaking and you just think your body is going to give up.”
Before releasing the shark back into the water, Davidson and his friends took its measurements.
Last October 2, a team of researchers caught a big 17-foot great white shark off the coast of Nova Scotia, eastern Canada, weighing a whopping 3,541 pounds (1,600 kilogrammes).
According to accounts, the ‘Queen of the Ocean’ shark was caught by an Ocearch research team led by Chris Fischer in the northwest Atlantic.
