In the 1990s, the use of under-eye liners was very popular (think Avril Lavigne and Britney Spears). This makeup style was cool, sophisticated, and a little badass at the time, and it swept the beauty industry by storm. What’s more, guess what? It’s come back to life.

The current take on the bottom liner is a little cleaner and simpler than its punk forerunner. It’s cooler, chicer, and more wearable than ever before. Excited? Here are three tips to help you embrace this seductive eye makeup trend. Check it out.

01. Reversed wing

You may have been wearing that flick on your upper lids up until now, but after this, you’ll want to chuck it and try the reversed wing instead. Smudged, moist, and very cool!

Apply eyeliner to the top and bottom of your eyes. Make a wing with a kajal stroke on your lower lash line that extends upwards from the outer corner. Smudge the kajal with an angled brush to soften the effect, and you’ve got yourself an envious eye look.

02. Cool grunge liner

Avoid the waterline with a broad stroke of black gel liner on your lower lid. On top of it, apply two to three strokes of the liner. To make your eyes appear larger, line your waterline with a white or nude eye pencil. Smudge the lower lash line to get a grungy look.

03. The Cleopatra look

Begin by drawing a winged liner on the outer corner of your eyes, just as you would normally. After that, draw a downward-pointing wing in the inner corner of your eyes. To soften the effect, line your eyelids with black kajal and smudge it out. Finish with a thick coat of mascara.
