We take the small things in life for granted far too often. We are only aware of these aspects of our lives, but we rarely stop to appreciate them. Let’s take a look at the small things that make life worthwhile.

It can be tough to (re-)discover the true beauty of the small things in our lives in many circumstances. We’ve become so consumed with the desire for evermore that we’ve lost sight of what we already have.

We no longer take time out from our goal to think about the delight and happiness that all the great aspects of our lives, no matter how insignificant, provide us.

Rather than being able to enjoy satisfaction in the present moment, we frequently postpone our delight. In fact, we frequently condition our satisfaction on the outcome of specific events. We give away our control over our delight when we wrongly believe that achieving particular goals (money, fame, position, power, etc.) will bring us great happiness.

The desire for happiness drives us to constantly seek more. And as soon as we’ve achieved one goal that has brought us enormous joy, we’re on to the next one.

This mindset concentrates our attention on the things we don’t have and leads us to believe that adding these items to our lives would bring us happiness. It’s a way of thinking that makes being content in the current moment challenging. When we are unable to obtain what we seek, it can also lead to increased levels of dissatisfaction.

It also draws our focus away from the current moment and all of the wonderful pleasures that it contains.

Gratitude has a lot to do with being able to find joy in the little things in life. You will become a much more appreciative person if you are able to focus your attention on all of the great qualities that already exist in your life.

Gratitude for the small things is a special talent that allows you to not only be pleased with your life but also to be less reliant on the result of external events.

It’s the first step in realizing the true source of happiness, which is found within.
