Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the district of Morigaon, Assam. It originates in the southern band of Brahmaputra. It occupies 38.85 km2 with grassland and wetland spaces for the Indian Rhinoceros. It was declared as Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in 1987. The Sanctuary is famous for the one-horned Rhinoceros species. It has now been reopened for the general public and tourists after the end of the rainy season.

The Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary reopened in the presence of people of the State’s Environment and Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary and Jagiroad MLA Pijush Hazarika.

Assam’s Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is not just famous for rhino species but also is home to over 2000 migratory birds and different species of reptiles.

The Sanctuary also has other animals. For example, leopards, wild boars, barking deer, wild buffaloes, and others.

There are now approximately 93 rhinos in the wildlife space, which is a 10% increase from the last 6 years. These 93 rhinos survive on just 16 square km of the Sanctuary.
