What good is a trip without music? There’s no soft tune bringing you down a swirl of memories when you glance out the window of a car, train, or even a plane? What would the atmosphere be like in that car full of pals if there were no loud tunes to sing along to till everyone had sore throats?

While touring, music is just as important as your travel needs. There’s a daily playlist that’s always being updated, and then there’s a list of all-time Bollywood hits. When it comes to traveling, though, some songs must be on your playlist. We’ve put together a playlist that includes an eclectic mix of classic and new songs that we believe should be on every traveler’s iPod. We’d love to hear about yours! Leave a comment with your favorite trip tunes!

1. Dil Chahta hai

It’s difficult to leave this off the list. Farhan Akhtar’s debut film, released in 2001, was the first time travel took center stage in a Bollywood film rather than serving as a backdrop to a scene. In our opinion, Dil Chahta Hai will always be the perfect Hindi travel song for road travels, particularly while traveling from Mumbai to Goa along the Konkan coast, where the song was shot.

2. Khwabon ke parinde

Exactly 10 years later, Farhan Akhtar’s sister Zoya releases a follow-up to the road trip mood film, but on a far greater scale. As a result, we have a movie that not only has travel as a primary theme but also stimulates you to go on a trip. Have you tried, like Hrithik, waving your hand against the wind?

3. Zindagi Ek Safar

Another masterpiece from 1971’s Andaaz, this time sung by the famous Kishore Kumar? Do you recall yodeling? You can’t have this song on your playlist without humming it! If you want to be more formal, you can ‘yodel.’

4. Yeh dil na hota bechara

Another of Kishore Kumar’s best songs, combined with Dev Anand’s evergreen legendary strut, you can’t help but tap your feet to the songs of S.D. Burman’s music while admiring the scenery. We totally agree that this song should be included in the all-time best Hindi travel songs list.

5. Illahi

Admit it: in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, you wished for Bunny’s aka Kabir’s aka Ranbir’s life. You told everybody who questioned why you wanted to travel, “Main udna chahta hoon, daudna chahta hoon, girna bhi chahta hoon bus rukhna nahi chahta!”

6. Patakha Guddi

Highway’s song stole everyone’s heart with its catchy lyrics and melodies, as well as an excellent video depicting a real road journey! For the greatest experience, put on your headphones, crank up the music, and ride in the back of a truck.

7. Hai apna dil toh awara

One of the best songs to dance to, this song so perfectly encapsulates our generation’s mentality that it’s impossible not to fall in love with it. Even more so when we’re wearing our hiking boots! It is without a doubt one of the best Hindi travel songs from the past.

8. Oh Gujariya

Gujariya by Queen is a free, cheerful, and vibrant song that will make your head bounce back and allow you to absorb the thrill of the magnificent sounds! Furthermore, it honors your aawaarapan! Isn’t it the ideal tune for a road trip?
