J. P. Dutta wrote and directed the 2000 Indian Hindi romance drama titled Refugee. Kareena Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan made their acting debuts. Jackie Shroff, Sunil Shetty, and Anupam Kher also starred in the movie. The fifth-highest-grossing movie of that year, Refugee had an average box office performance.

It tells the tale of an anonymous Indian Muslim who assists unauthorised migrants from Pakistan and India (including Bangladesh in modern times) in crossing the border across the Great Rann of Kutch. The short story “Love Across the Salt Desert” is said to have served as the inspiration for the movie.

Here are some stills from the movie which will take us all down the memory lane.

Although the movie did not do so well in terms of commercial success, it is quite a good movie in terms of its storyline. Kareena won the Filmfare in 2001 for the best female debut. The movie was a good kickstart to their film careers which took many leaps and turns and went through ups and downs to achieve what both stars have today.

On the Workfront Abhishek Bachchan appeared in the Netflix-exclusive T-Series and Anurag Basu Productions movie Ludo in 2020. He started filming Dasvi, a movie made by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films and Jio Studios, with Yami Gautam in February 2021. Meanwhile, Kareena Kapoor Khan’s upcoming movie is Laal Singh Chaddha in which she is starring opposite Aamir Khan. The movie is slated to release on August 11, 2022.
