Benedict Cumberbatch, the well-known English actor is best known for his role as Dr. Strange in the Marvel movies. The actor has worked in quite a few challenging roles, including Sherlock Holmes. The actor’s recent work, Power of the Dog sheds light on quite a few touchy subjects. The actor played the role of a rancher, Phil Burbank in the movie. While promoting the movie, the actor touched down on the topic of toxic masculinity.

Benedict Cumberbatch had quite a bit to say about the matter. As per a Koi Moi report, the actor addressed the fact that “We need to fix the behavior of men. You have to kind of lift the lid on the engine a little bit.”

He further added, “I think it’s ever-relevant, and in a world that’s questioning and ripping into and finally pointing out the inadequacies of the status quo and the patriarchy, it’s even more important.”

He went on to say, “You get this sort of rebellion aspect, this denial, this sort of childish defensive position of ‘not all men are bad. No, we just have to shut up and listen.”

“There is not enough recognition of abuse, there’s not enough recognition of disadvantages and, at the same time, somewhere along the line, maybe not now,” the actor stated.

He finished the thought off by saying, “But somewhere along the line, we need to do maybe what the film does as well, which is examine the reason behind the oppressive behavior to fix the men.”

Power of the Dog is quite the watch with a subtle storyline, ominous overtones, and complex characters. It also has quite the cast with Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Paul Dano, among others.
