When considering the film Fifty Shades of Grey, clothes are likely the last thing on your mind. Alternatively, the main characters’ attire. Despite the sizzling X-rated sequences and Jamie Dornan’s washboard abs, we were mesmerized by the clothes we saw in the movie trailers and ads, such as Anastasia Steele’s (played by Dakota Johnson) flowery button-down and her stunning peach dress.

When Anastasia first encounters Christian, he remarks, “She’s anxious about the interview, so I picked pieces that were obviously poor selections. I thought at the time that it was a poor choice because the blouse’s faded Liberty London print reflected her distorted perception of what an adult would wear. It appears to be a thrift store find that she has had for a while. She appears to be a child from the way she looks overall. She first encounters Christian’s mother.” [The filmmaker] When Sam Taylor Johnson meets Christian’s mother at dinner, she adores this peach outfit. It was influenced by Faye Dunaway’s performance in the -cool romance film The Thomas Crown Affair, which also included billionaires. With the 25 covered buttons and the delicate fabric, a lot of traditional handwork went into it. Although the fit and length were tasteful, Christian still found it to be a little wicked. This was also my favorite.”

When Christian catches her off guard in Savannah, “When she travels to Savannah, and Christian surprises her, I sew a green dress for her. Although Dakota wore every piece of clothing with a smile, I believe this was her favorite. She had a lovely, small appearance.”

Anastasia’s graduation “Certain aesthetics, such as Christian’s jeans, were specified in the book and were anticipated to be fulfilled in the film. Erika [author of the bestselling novel Fifty Shades of Grey E.L. James] believed that her audience would want to see the grey chiffon dress she wore to her graduation.”
