The spectacular Bollywood blockbuster Khiladi gave us our one and only Akshay Kumar, needless to say, Khiladi marked AK’s success in the industry, leading him to become one of the most popular stars among the other celebrated. However, while we all now celebrate Khiladi as Akshay Kumar’s not many know that he wasn’t the first choice for the role.
According to Indian Express, it was when Abbas Mustan approached Akshay Kumar for Khiladi, that his debut films Saugandh and Deedar weren’t even delivered. Albeit the producers needed to project Rishi Kapoor and Govinda leading the pack however the tale and the plot of the movie needed someone younger. That is when Abbas Burmawalla chose to call the Singh Is King actor.
Abbas Mustan took it to his Twitter handle saying, “‘Chase the things that get you excited about living.’ 3 decades ago we did just that & were grateful to have our first success in the form of ‘Khiladi’. A heartfelt thanks & congratulations to the entire cast & crew for this milestone.”
To this, Akshay Kumar wrote, “Thank you for giving me my first success Abbas Mastan ji and the name or more like an identity which has stayed with me till date, Khiladi.”
