An Indian actor, director, screenwriter, playback singer, producer, and television personality, Farhan Akhtar specializes in Hindi-language movies. He was raised in Mumbai under the influence of the Indian film industry and is the son of screenwriters Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani.
After founding a production company called Excel Entertainment with Ritesh Sidhwani in 1999, Akhtar made his directorial debut with Dil Chahta Hai (2001). The movie won the National Award for Best Hindi Film and the Filmfare Award for Best Film, and it was widely praised for its portrayal of contemporary Indian youth.

The Fakir of Venice, a black comedy directed by Anand Surapur, was the last film Farhan worked on before Rock On was released. The film was supposed to be his acting debut, but it was in 2019 that it was released.
Following the success of Rock On!!, Farhan quickly changed his focus to acting, going on to appear in the films Luck By Chance (2009), Karthik Calling Karthik (2010), and Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara (2011). Farhan demonstrated his acting and writing talents in each of his films, garnering the admiration of both audiences and critics. The dialogue for Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara, directed by Zoya Akhtar, was also written by him.
Together with Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan founded Excel Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. in 1999. In addition to Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011), Don 2 (2011), Talaash: The Answer Lies Within (2012), Fukrey (2013), and Dil Dhadakne Do, the production company, has a variety of other critically acclaimed and financially successful films to its name (2015). The Ranveer Singh-Alia Bhatt film Gully Boy is now being co-produced by the outstanding actor and singer. Hello Charlie (2021) and Toofan (2021) are among his other movies.
