Johnny Depp has chosen his new project, and it will be his first film appearance since Minimata in 2020. The actor is currently embroiled in a court battle with his ex-wife Amber Heard, who has charged him with assaulting her when they were married. After a U.K. court ruled against him in his civil lawsuit against The Sun, which dubbed him a “wife-beater,” Depp was asked to leave his part as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.

According to Variety, Johnny Depp’s next work will take him to France, where he will play King Louis XV in a movie directed by French director Mawenn, who will also act in the movie as Jeanne du Barry, Louis XV’s last mistress. The film’s plot and title have yet to be announced, but it is set to begin filming this summer.

Apart from some voice acting for the animated series Puffins, Johnny Depp’s last movie role, and actually his last substantial effort, was Minamata, in which he played an American photojournalist recording the consequences of mercury poisoning on the people of a Japanese city.

The actor played Gellert Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. However, Warner Bros. requested Johnny Depp to leave the character of Dumbledore soon after filming started for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, citing Amber Heard’s allegations.

For her part, Amber Heard will appear in the eagerly awaited Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which will be released in December. Despite the fact that netizens have petitioned for the film to replace Amber Heard, the filmmaker has refused, and therefore the film will feature her.
