Donald Douglas Richard Pattinson, a vintage automobile importer, and Clare Pattinson (née Charlton), a booker at a modeling agency, welcomed Thomas Pattinson into the world on May 13, 1986, in London, England. With two older sisters, he grew raised in Barnes, southwest London. Robert began studying the guitar and piano at the age of four and fell in love with music even before he began acting. In his early teens, he experienced a profound passion for auteur cinema and began to prefer watching movies to doing his homework. He used to sing his songs during solo acoustic guitar performances at open mic nights in bars and pubs throughout London while he was in his late teens and early twenties.
His first acting experience was in the 2004 movie Vanity Fair, where he had a small part but was ultimately cut. He was unaware of this until the premiere. He didn’t know that the casting director had gotten him the audition for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and she felt terrible for not telling him (2005). He was fortunate to be cast as Cedric Diggory, which at the age of 19 helped him reach a larger audience. After that, he continued to appear in mostly smaller British TV productions. He was still unsure whether he wanted to pursue acting, and Hollywood had only shown sporadic interest in him. Pattinson occasionally sent tapes of his auditions to American casting directors during that time.
