On November 19, 1975, Sushmita was born into the Bengali-speaking Sen family in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. Her parents, Subhra, a jewelry designer and business owner in Dubai, and her father, Shubeer, a former Indian Air Force Wing Commander, make up her family. She has a brother named Rajeev and a sister named Neelam. Dad of Subhra was a poet. She attended a variety of schools in Nagpur and Jorhat, but she spent the majority of her education years in Delhi at the Air Force Golden Jubilee Institute and Air Force Silver School. She was viewed as a tomboy who mostly hung out with boys. She couldn’t speak English till she was 16 years old because the schools were in Hindi. Later, she not only became fluent in English but also earned a degree in journalism in addition to being an English Honors student. Her place of birth has given her perfect command of Urdu. At the age of 15, she made her debut in front of the public at the Air Force Club Contest. She then participated in a few fashion shows. Then, in 1994, she made the decision to compete in the Miss India beauty pageant, fully aware that Aishwarya Rai was the current favorite. When Sushmita was named Miss India, everyone was caught off guard, and Aishwarya had to settle with First Runner-up. The two stunning women later won the titles of Miss Universe and Miss World, respectively. Ironically, Sushmita’s final Miss Universe costume was created by her mother and a little-known Meena Bazar tailor.

She made her first appearance as herself in the Bollywood film “Dastak” in 1996. Despite the film’s lackluster performance, she got some attention, which launched her career in film. Since then, she has played herself in a variety of roles as well as several “item” numbers. She was not regarded as classic beauty and led a quite unusual lifestyle, which led to numerous romances but no marriages. She desired to become a mother and name her adopted daughter Renee. She had to undergo a court battle since she was single before she could eventually adopt Renee. Eventually, on April 13, 2000, she received approval to adopt the child, despite the fact that, strangely, a year before, on April 13, 1999, the family-owned company in Dubai had been renamed “Renee.”
