The vibrant city of Jodhpur came alive with cinematic fervour as the 12th edition of the Rajasthan International Film Festival (RIFF) kicked off from January 31 to February 4. Among the highlights of this year’s event was the much-anticipated return of German-born actress Suzanne Bernerts, who graced the festival after a significant gap. Her last attendance was in 2019, making this comeback a nostalgic and exciting moment for fans.
She said, “I am delighted at being back in the fold. It’s like coming home. I am overwhelmed by the welcome received upon arrival in Jodhpur. It is an amazing and magical experience to be in this festival, held at Miraj Cinemas in the Blue City Mall, featuring a lineup of film screenings, masterclasses, and discussions, drawing cinema enthusiasts from across the globe.”
Actor Rajit Kapur, whose film Shaam Hi To Hai (A Night is All There Is) was selected in the competition category this year, joined Bernert in celebrating the spirit of independent cinema.
She shared, “One of the standout moments for me was my reunion with acclaimed actor Rajit Kapur at the opening ceremony. We two, who have shared the stage at RIFF in 2019, rekindled our professional camaraderie amid the festival’s glittering kickoff.”
She continued, “Our heartfelt interaction added a personal touch to the ceremony, reminding attendees of the enduring bonds formed in the industry. My schedule at RIFF was packed with engaging activities, including a thought-provoking panel discussion on Storytelling in OTT Web Series.”
Joined by other notable panellists from the digital entertainment space, she delved into the evolution of narratives in the streaming era. Drawing from her own experiences in web series and films, Bernert emphasised the importance of authentic storytelling that resonates with diverse audiences. “The panel, part of RIFF’s broader focus on contemporary cinema trends, sparked lively debates on creativity, platform dynamics, and audience engagement,” she added.
Adding to the festival’s charm was Bernet’s first-time meeting with actress and author Seema Kapoor, who participated in a captivating talk session with Anshu Harsh – co-founder of RIFF and founder of the “WOW” (World of Words) book club, discussing her latest book.
As the festival continues, it promises more such enriching interactions, bridging global and regional cinema. For Bernert, this return marks not just a professional milestone but a personal one, reaffirming her deep connection to Indian cinema. Fans can look forward to more updates from the actress as she immerses herself in the remaining days of the event.
Bernert is known for her versatile roles in Indian television and films, including portraying Sonia Gandhi in The Accidental Prime Minister.
