The South Indian film industry is abundantly filled with talent so much that even Bollywood draws inspiration from South Indian movies. There are some actors and actresses who took adequate experience and knowledge by working in South Indian movies and then ventured into Bollywood.
The five south Indian actresses who made a successful debut in Bollywood are Tamannaah Bhatia, Asin Thottumkal, Ileana D’cruz, Shruti Hassan and Genelia D’souza.
With Baahubali being the biggest hit in the history of Indian cinema, Tamannaah Bhatia has become one of the most popular actresses in the industry. But it always wasn’t the same for her. After a flop Bollywood debut, she went to the South and received remarkable fame. After that Tamannaah Bhatia returned to Bollywood with a bang.
Asin Thottumkal was already a superstar in the South Industry before entering Bollywood. Her first Bollywood movie Ghajinj was a major hit with Bollywood’s superstar Aamir Khan.
Before entering Bollywood with the masterpiece Barfi, Ileana D’cruz had to make a strong base in Telegu films. Ever since her debut, she has been landing major roles in Bollywood.
Shruti Hassan the daughter of South Indian star Kamal Hassan already had a bright future in the south films. But she wanted to go beyond that and experiment with Bollywood as well. Her first Bollywood movie was Luck in the year 2009.
Genelia D’souza’s first try in Bollywood in 2009 wasn’t very successful. So had to go down South establish herself as a leading actress. After doing that she returned to Bollywood giving the biggest hits of all time Jaane Tu….Ya Jaane Na.
