Actor Nitish Sharma is set to play Shatrughan, the youngest son of King Dasharatha, in director Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming multi-part epic Ramayana. While Ranbir Kapoor as Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravan have been grabbing headlines, Nitish is gearing up to bring a quieter, yet powerful brother to life on screen.
Opening up about his character, Nitish says there’s a lot more to Shatrughan than what people usually remember. “I think Shatrughan is one of the most understated yet fascinating characters in the Ramayan. People know him as the youngest of the four brothers, but many don’t realise how dependable and capable he truly was.”
For Nitish, it’s this quiet resilience that makes Shatrughan stand out. “He was a skilled warrior, deeply disciplined, and someone who quietly fulfilled his responsibilities without seeking recognition. His strength was never loud—it was calm, consistent, and selfless. That’s what I admire most about him. I hope audiences get to witness that silent resilience and understand that true strength doesn’t always need to announce itself.”
The actor adds that he wants to bring dignity and depth to the role, showing a side of Shatrughan that often gets overlooked in popular retellings.
Nitish was last seen as Sameer Verma in the series Pyaar Paisa Profit. Over the years, he has also been the face of several major national and international brands, including Toyota, Blackberrys, Manyavar, Swiggy, and Tata Tea. Beyond acting, Nitish has explored storytelling. He has written and directed short films titled Escape and The Date, and also acted in the short film Zaroori Hai.
Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana is being mounted on a grand scale and will release in multiple parts. Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana. The ensemble also includes Lara Dutta, Ravi Dubey, Arun Govil, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Indira Krishnan, Vivek Oberoi, among others.
With this role, Nitish hopes to shine a light on the youngest Raghuvaansh prince — not with loud heroics, but with the kind of steady, selfless strength that defined Shatrughan.
