Actor Vibhav Roy, best known for his work in Hindi daily soaps like Gustakh Dil, Doli Armaano Ki, Kuch Toh Hai Tere Mere Darmiyaan, Meri Saas Bhoot Hai and Shaitani Rasmein, and for his appearance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat, has opened up about the most demanding character of his career so far.
Getting candid, Roy said that portraying Itaat Khan in Bhansali’s magnum opus pushed him the most as a performer.
“I think the most challenging character I’ve played has been Itaat Khan in Padmaavat,” Roy said.
The actor explained that working with Bhansali comes with its own set of pressures. “Working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali is incredibly demanding because he expects nothing less than your absolute best every single day. His attention to detail is truly unmatched, and every beat, every pause, and every emotion has to land perfectly because he has such a clear vision for every scene,” he said.
Roy added that an actor has to balance honesty with precision on a Bhansali set. “As an actor, your performance has to come from a very honest and organic place, while also being completely in sync with his rhythm and storytelling,” he said.
To prepare for the historical role, Roy said he went through an intensive process. “Preparing for the role involved a lot of work — I underwent voice coaching, spent time reading about the Khilji dynasty to better understand the world and the character, and also went through a physical transformation,” he shared.
The actor revealed he bulked up specifically for the part. “I put on a considerable amount of muscle and gained weight to do justice to the part,” Roy said.
Despite the challenges, Roy called the experience rewarding. “It was an incredibly enriching experience and one that challenged me in every possible way as an actor,” he added.
On television, Roy continues to be a familiar face with his versatile roles across genres, from romance to supernatural dramas.
