Diamonds that sparkle don’t get to be near perfect right away. Metamorphosis takes time, just like turning a grape into wine. People take time to shine. Hrithik Roshan, the nation’s heartthrob, was not born faultless, and he, too, faced adversity. It is a frequent misconception that children of celebrities or stars lead luxurious lives free of hardships, but this is not the case.

Hrithik had serious stuttering problems as a child. He had to live in a world where his friends talked incessantly around him, while he had to summon all of his power to pronounce syllables. It’s a heartbreaking experience for a child who finds expressing himself through words to be his worst fear.

Hrithik was diagnosed with Scoliosis-Curved Spinal Cord at the age of 21 and advised not to pursue acting as a career because it required a lot of physical pressure on the spine, potentially putting him in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.

In 2010, misfortune hit the actor once more. He was diagnosed with a poor knee, which caused his left knee to become extremely fragile, even worse than that of elderly individuals. The experts predicted that the knee would only last a year. A blood clot was discovered in his brain in July of 2013. He had to go under the knife, with only a slim chance of survival. In fact, the surgery was so dangerous that it increased the risk of death.

Doctors and speech therapists are crucial, but they are only tools, not enablers. Hrithik’s efforts and pure bloody-mindedness, the determination to practice in order to improve, were what genuinely helped him. He stated in one of his interviews that he had practiced for 36 hours in order to be able to advise his cook on what to create for supper. This may appear surreal, but it isn’t.

And we all give up so readily, always blaming our stars for our imperfections. We forget, though, that we must work for it. To receive, we must first give.

Hrithik, who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, had even higher expectations and put even more pressure on himself to be flawless. His health was deteriorating at the same time as his challenges were increasing. He used two primary tools to get to where he is now: the desire to practice and the determination to succeed. If Hrithik, who donned the position of a superhero and charmed the nation, could fight back, we should also discover our inner superhero.
