Bhooth Bangla, Bollywood’s much-anticipated horror-comedy starring Akshay Kumar, was scheduled to release in theatres on April 10, 2026, but its release date has reportedly been postponed to April 17. And the sudden delay in the film’s release has sparked an interesting question — is Ranveer Singh now a bigger box-office star than Akshay Kumar?
Let’s go with the facts -Akshay Kumar needs no introduction. He has given several hits in his career, having worked on over 150 films, of which more than 50 have been successful and ranked as hits or superhits. With his consistent performance, he has built his reputation, delivering multiple releases every year across different genres, from comedy and action to patriotic.
Although Akshay has crossed the 500 crore mark in combined earnings in a year, none of his single films has ever touched that mark. And in recent times, his box-office collections have fluctuated, with several films struggling to meet expectations.
However, the 2018 film 2.0 earned approximately 700 crore worldwide; in that film, he played the antagonist, while his top-earning films as a main lead include Housefull 4 (₹210 cr), Good Newwz (₹205 cr), and others.
On the other hand, Ranveer Singh has carved his niche in the business with fewer but impactful films. He is hailed for his intense performances, from Ramleela and Padmavat to Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar: The Revenge. With his larger-than-life roles, he has become a favorite. His recent hit Dhurandhar, which surpassed 1000 crore at the box office, has set the bar high. And now, with his ability to headline high-budget films and pull audiences to the theatres, his market value has increased.
Comparing the two stars isn’t entirely fair, as Akshay Kumar still enjoys a dedicated fanbase, while Ranveer Singh wins hearts through his picky roles and impactful collaborations.
To sum it up, box office success in today’s time not just depends on star power but also on the type of content presented, word of mouth, and the impact it leaves. Also, the audience has become smarter; they no longer just follow the favorite-star theory but value quality content.
