In a frantic debate, the shocking failures of Bollywood films have been listed. Even though some people are persuaded that Bollywood is “finished,” it is not. While the film occasionally focuses too much on “intellect,” other times too little, and other times too much on its typical “Bollywoodish” ideologies, while some flops, such as Guzaarish (2010), Laal Singh Chaddha, 7 Khoon Maaf, and Chandigarh Karein Aashiqui, are truly unfortunate, On the other hand, there are some movies that just don’t have the right combination of script and screenplay to make the story go further. The scripts of films like Shamshera, Dhaakad, and others promise intense action but fail to captivate the audience.

Even more concerning is the perception that the producers are promoting it through the use of excessively exaggerated characterisations. Hence the films failed to succeed despite casting superstars from Bollywood in the lead roles. That concludes our list of Bollywood superstars and their super-flop films, some of which were intended to fail at the box office and others for their “misfortune” call.

Ranbir Kapoor- Shamshera

Speaking of Shamshera, the list of flop movies for RK doesn’t fall off at least. But Shamshera definitely happens to be another flop after Bombay Velvet. The movie starred Vaani Kapoor alongside Ranbir Kapoor. The film takes you back to the time of dacoits, but yet fails to keep the content relevant. The film earned 63 crores at the box office, while was made at a budget of 100-150 crores according to reports.

Kangana Ranaut- Dhaakad

Even though the film was channelised as the first female-led action film, the film failed. Starring Kangana Ranaut in the lead alongside Arjun Rampal and others, the film tanked at the box office. However, Kangana’s actions and stunts on board definitely helped to elevate the spark, but yet couldn’t cope up to race at the box office. The film only earned 3 crores at the box office. With its poor audience lure, shows were cancelled eventually, and it even struggled to get an OTT claim later.

Akshay Kumar- Samrat Prithviraj

It’s been a sad rundown for Akshay Kumar, the Khiladi of Bollywood. With back-to-back failing movies, Samrat Prithviraj even when was expected to have a shooting outcome at the box office, failed too. While Akshay Kumar tried his best to thrive with the content, work and setting, the facts somehow were misleading, which is why it didn’t work.

Ajay Devgn- Runway 34

Ajay Devgn starrer Runway 34 even though had a massive flop at the box office, surprisingly ran for a month in the theatres. The film promises actions, thrills and more, it yet fails to grip the script. And the poor script doesn’t really work anymore amongst the aware audience of the country. Runway 34 starred, Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, Boman Irani, Amitabh Bachchan and others.

Salman Khan – Radhe

Salman Khan starrer Radhe faced a huge backlash from the netizens. For its poor script, and SK’s urge to have the same image that he had 10 years back. The film while failing to impress the audience, it also highlighted the plight of ‘ageing denial’. The poor superlative body VFX on Salman Khan only welcomed trolls in the rundown. On the other hand, Disha Patani was just a showpiece with no value addition.

Shah Rukh Khan – Zero

Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero had a massive failure at the box office. However, the failure of the movie left SRK with ‘zero’ enthusiasm. Soon after, he took a break from films. The film starred Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif in other lead roles. The film failed for its wishy-washy screenplay and an extreme extravagant showcase of stardom, which definitely wasn’t necessary for the line-up.

Ranveer Singh – Jayeshbhai Jordaar

With a strong social message, the film was a worthy watch. Yet it failed at the box office! The film collected only 15 crores in India as per reports and 26 crores worldwide. The film was made with a budget of 75 crores. The film while brings out the plight of family struggles in a remote rural place, where gender discrimination is a burning issue.

Hrithik Roshan – Guzaarish

The movie got released back in 2010, starring Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya; and still, it leaves us in wonder why it failed. The classic masterpiece it was, with strong prowess on the screen by Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai, the film was truly worthy of a watch. But what we could understand is that it happened to form a bridge between mass and class. Missing out on masala, Guzaarish was beyond what we expected from Bollywood back then. However, it still happens to be one of a kind ‘respectable’ failure of Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Priyanka Chopra – 7 Khoon Maaf

Starring Priyanka Chopra and other versatile actors from Bollywood in the leads, the movie 7 Khoon Maaf stemmed from a piece by Ruskin Bond. However, with its idyllic treatment of the thrill, suspense and mystery, the film definitely profounds on the aesthetics of the screenplay. It stands on a violent giveback to ‘patriarchy’ and ‘the dominance of women’, but somewhere, the audience failed to accept the alpha female aura of Priyanka Chopra.

Kareena Kapoor – Laal Singh Chaddha

Laal Singh Chaddha shattered at the box office this year. Starring Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor in the lead, the film failed to lure the audience to the theatres. With the unnecessary ‘Boycott’ slogans and Twitter wars played somewhat instrumental, some brought a legitimate comparison between Forrest Grump and Laal Singh Chaddha (for it’s an adaptation of the former legendary film). But what we still think, is that the comparison isn’t really viable for a country like India and its audience. The mass here doesn’t have the exposure and opportunity to really cherish the magic of the 1994 film, or the privilege to understand it. But with Laal Singh Chaddha they had the chance but missed it in misfortune. However, since its OTT release very recently, netizens are pouring praise for the film online, and are urging to know why it failed.
