If you wish to take a break from the intense, high-octane, and action drama this week, Akashaditya Lama-directed Dulhaniya Le Aaeegi is a perfect choice. The film beautifully explores the wedding comedy genre, breaking the usual Bollywood pattern with a refreshing storyline. The Storyline
At heart the film follows Navya (Khushalii Kumar), a 32 year old girl and her wealthy father Devi Prasad (Mahesh Manjrekar) who in distress fixes his daughter’s marriage to a man with multiple affairs—all because his daughter has passed the age bracket of 30 and as per the society’s norms getting married becomes the most important thing after 30s or else wedding becomes a challenge after that. And this very topic makes viewers think, tackling the stereotype.
However, Navya, who discovers the truth of the man she is going to marry, instead of canceling the wedding, embarks on a mission to deal with it in her own way, with the idea of getting married on the same date her father has planned, but with a twist. This sets the stage for the drama ahead, leading to a ride filled with emotions, fun, drama, and some pure father-daughter moments that will keep you invested.
Direction, Screenplay, Craft And More
Director Akashaditya Lama weaves an engaging story where, at points, we may feel it is predictable, but that’s the moment the film surprises. With a crisp runtime of 2 hours 7 minutes, the maker ensures consistent entertainment, a balanced screenplay, and no dull moments. The cinematography beautifully elevates the experience with bright colors and precise portrayal of the high-profile wedding. The writing was balanced, and the dialogues were impactful.
The film’s key scenes were the moments where Khushalii Kumar and Mahesh Manjrekar, posing as father and daughter, showed the purity of the relationship and the emotional depth—so heartwarming.
Performances
Khushalii Kumar as Navya, the bride and daughter, delivers her best, bringing sincerity, charm, and emotional depth. As a performer, the actress nailed it, giving her one of her best stints. She balanced her high energy and emotional depth with ease, and that is the biggest strength.
Mahesh Manjrekar as Navya’s father commands attention. He beautifully portrays the worries of a father with emotions and intensity while holding his rich businessman tag.
Piyush Mishra brings his charm while showcasing his strong acting skills, while Snehil Dixit Mehra adds freshness and emotions. Omkar Kapoor impresses.
