The 2026 Academy Awards celebrated outstanding talent and movies, with Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another taking all the major awards. The film won Best Picture, Best Director (Paul Thomas Anderson), Best Film Editing, and Best Adapted Screenplay, earning Anderson his first Oscar. Sean Penn and Benicio del Toro both received nominations for the Supporting Actor award, but Penn won the award because of his performance in the movie.

Jessie Buckley made history by becoming the first Irishwoman to win Best Actress for her performance in Hamnet, while Michael B Jordan won Best Actor for his role in Sinners, which included Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme), Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another), Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon), and Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent) as his competitors. Amy Madigan won Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Weapons, beating Elle Fanning, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas (Sentimental Value), Wunmi Mosaku (Sinners), and Teyana Taylor (One Battle After Another).

Sentimental Value became the first Norwegian film to win Best International Feature, with standout performances from Elle Fanning, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, Renate Reinsve, and Stellan Skarsgård. Autumn Durald Arkapaw made history by becoming the first woman to win Best Cinematography for Sinners, which also won Best Original Screenplay (Ryan Coogler) and Best Original Score (Ludwig Göransson).

KPop Demon Hunters won Best Animated Feature in the animation category over Arco, Elio, Little Amélie, The Character of Rain, and Zootopia 2. Its song “Golden” earned Best Original Song. The Girl Who Cried Pearls won Best Animated Short, and Frankenstein (Kate Hawley) swept Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Best Production Design.

Mr Nobody Against Putin was named Best Documentary Feature, while All the Empty Rooms won Best Documentary Short. F1 took Best Sound, and Avatar: Fire and Ash won for Best Visual Effects. One Battle After Another (Cassandra Kulukundis) also took Best Casting.
