Abhishek’s Bachchan’s Gujarati Accent Is Bang-On In The Big Bull

Abhishek Bachchan shines in

The Big Bull which is NOT a Harshad Mehta bio-pic(heh heh) has Abhishek Bachchan cast as a Harshad Mehta doppelganger named Hemant Shah who causes havoc in the stock market in the 1990s. The trailer which was released on Friday shows Abhishek Bachchan doing a really subtle Gujju accent. He has done it before when he played a Dhirubhai Ambani doppelganger(damn these copyright rules!). Many consider Mani Ratnam’s Guru to be Abhishek’s best performance to date. The Big Bull could change that.

The trailer is fast paced , almost wheezy in its breathlessness. And that’s just the right tempo and mood to show the protagonist’s impatience to become rich and successful. When someone offers Hemant Shah a drink in the trailer, he smirks delicately and with a twinkle in his dreaming eyes he says, “I will drink only when I can afford the best liquor.” Cheers to that.

Says a lot about the broker’s back-breaking ambitions. The trailer has some sturdy supporting actors like Ram Kumar and Saurabh Shukla who seem to have a lot of say in Harshad/Hemant’s life. Ileana d’Cruz is cast as a Sucheta Dalal doppelganger. Ms Dalal was instrumental in unearthing the Harshad Mehta scam. Here she is played by d’Cruz as a selfimportant journalist looking for a scoop. The glint in Abhishek Bachchan’s eyes suggests she is going to get much more than she had bargain for.

Going by the trailer, The Big Bull looks like a redemptive feature film in Disney-Hotstar’s repertoire after the horrendous Laxmii and Sadak 2.
